Cream Cheese Apple Coffee Cake

Cream Cheese Apple Coffee Cake

Cream Cheese Apple Coffee Cake

What a beautiful dessert. I love using the apples of the season. Blessings, Catherine

It's funny how I never expected a coffee cake to contain coffee until you mention all the comments! I grew up on a sour cream coffee cake, and while I never drank coffee with it, it was understood that the adults drank coffee with this cake. This coffee cake looks incredible, and I'll definitely have to give it a go!

I think the people people asking where the coffee is are British. In the UK a COFFEE cake contains coffee, much the same as a chocolate cake contains chocolate. In Britain, unless it has coffee in it, it is NEVER referred to as a coffee cake

It's referred to coffee cake because it's cake you can eat with a cup of coffee. That's why USA has LIBERTY...LOL!

Coffee cake just means u are suppost to have with coffee.. My grandma had wonderful coffee cake receipes.. Never one of them had coffee in it... I will try this recipe looks yummie..

Ohhhhhh kay. Need this in my life. And I laugh, too, at those misconstrued comments. They make my day :)

Must be people under 30 asking where the coffee is in coffee cake. Coffee cake is a cake/dessert meant to be enjoyed WITH a cup of coffee. I am definitely trying this recipe. You rock, girl!

The author of the blog is under 30 and I am too! I know what coffee cake is and what it is used for. I think it is more of a traditional thing rather than an age thing! My family had it growing up, but some families did not! Also, many recipes are named after literal ingredients, i.e. bread pudding. I would understand if some got confused, especially in this world of unusual ingredients and unique recipes!

We have to understand the multicultural aspect. I was lost with some recipes in foreign countries. Loved guanabano con leche in Costa Rica but couldn't find it in Chile. They call it chirimoya there. Finally looked it up on the internet. Duh!! I lost time enjoying delicious chirimoya helado!!!

The chocolate chip comment though....your answer is spot on.

This looks absolutely divine! I am going apple picking this weekend, and this would be the perfect dish to whip up post-trip. :) Thanks for sharing! Xo, Alison

Some people may ask where is the coffee in coffee cake recipes, kinda like Tea cake where is the tea? My answer is coffee cake you have with coffee and tea cake you have with tea , it's really that simple, however you can drink with it whatever you desire :) Great Recipe ty

Good giggle today!!! I'll have to make this to drink with my tea!!! Oh, does that mean I have to call it a tea cake??? LMAO!!! Thanks for another great recipe!

People think there is supposed to be coffee in a coffee cake? But then when you drink your coffee with the cake, that would be way too much coffee! This cake sounds amazing -- I love the idea of making it super-rich with cream cheese.

Hi, I am currently a college student who sells baked goods... Curiously, Did you ever want to sell your products and if you had someway would you? Thanks so much, keep up the awesome work!!

it's delicious. the taste and texture of the food is really wonderful as i see :)

This looks very good - but almost anything with cream cheese has got to be! :)

what kind of apples would work best?

I used honeycrisp, but any firm apple should be fine.

Thank you!

Whoa! I think if you added a little sugar and butter this would be awesome; I'd omit the coffee though!

Trying out this recipe! So far, it looks good, but it has to get husband approval! Can't wait!

He went back for seconds and he isn't a dessert eater! I guess we have an approval!

Can I use strawberries instead?? If so, should I take out cinnamon from the recip too??

nice share i love you method it's easy thx

how can I print this recipe without the comments.

Hmmm, in Northern Ireland we DO make coffee cake that actually has coffee in it so I'm not surprised by the comments you previously received!

This looks wonderful. Could I use peaches instead of apples?

I am using your recipe today on my blog - I only made one modification of adding some oatmeal to the streusel :) I have credited the recipe to you and linked back but included my own instructions and pictures we took while making the recipe. It smells amazing while baking!

That was a delious cake, I have already made it, and it's good with a cup of coffe in the morning!

This apple cake looks delicious ;)

Seriously though, in the UK, Coffee Cake actually does have coffee in it, so maybe all those queries were from us Brits?

This cake is fantastic! I made it tonight for our Sunday family dinner. Fifteen of us tried it and loved it! I will definitely make it again. Thanks for a great recipe!

Reminds me of a time years ago, when at a home show the host mentioned to clean dry flowers or foliage to put in a paper bag with rice and shake off all the dust, and someone actually wanted to know if you had to cook the rice first ???

People are quite something at times.....

Been baking for over 35 years and even when I was younger never did I wonder why no coffee in coffee cake, just have a cup with the cake....enough said

Need a better 'PRINT' function. We just want the recipe, not 10 pages of pix. Right now you have to high-lite what you want to print. Other than that, love all your stuff!

I think the coffee cake question is a cultural thing. You have an international following. Here in UK coffee cake has coffee in it. Even without the coffee this sounds like a great recipe. I can't wait to try it.

I think they to many Amelia Bedelia books. Looks so delish!

You guys are missing a little Americana here. Coffee cakes were served in the 50's, 60's and into the 70's because they were made with things always in the kitchen and could be thrown together quickly when people stopped by (usually women friends coming in the mornings with or without kids) to have something to eat with the coffee you served. It was always assumed that when you dropped by someone's house, there was coffee and something to eat: cookies, cake, coffee cake or something else sweet. Coffee cakes don't take much work, very little cleanup beyond the mixer and the pan, don't need to be frosted or rolled out.

I just made this coffee cake and it was wonderful. I did mix some raisins in with the apples. The only problem I have with this recipe is that we wanted to eat the whole thing immediately! Definitely a winner!

Have you ever made these in cupcake tins? Wondering how it changes the cook time. I'm trying it as we speak!

Let me know how it turns out!

Can you double the resipie?

Sure!

If you double this recipe, what size pan and at what temp and how long to bake? Thanks ahead of time

I would use a 9x13 pan. Maybe try an hour and see how they look. :)

Thank you, I'm about to start making this mow!!!

Yes as an Aussie we were surprised when we visited the States and the \"coffee cake\" didn't have coffee in them. The name is really like it is meant to be a \"general cake\" eaten with a cup of coffee. Doesn't make sense to us Aussies but they sure did taste good. Thanks for sharing your recipe. Khris

Hi! I made this tonight using pears instead of apples, and pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon. Delicious! Thanks for a great keeper recipe! :o)

I never thought that a coffee cake had to contain coffee. Always assumed it was something you ate with a cup of coffee. But actually it makes total sense that if the name is \"coffee cake\" it will have coffee on it... like \"chocolate cake\" or \"banana ut bread\".

This is delicious! I've made this twice and it turned out perfectly both times. I used Granny Smith apples. Yum!

Is it served warm?

Do u have the calorie counts for this? I know I know. Life too short to count calories but I eat everything but count the calories too and have lost 45 lbs. so quite proud of myself. But I want to make this. Looks amazing!!

Sorry, I don’t have calorie counts. You can find calculators for recipes online though if you google it!

I made this yesterday. It was a huge hit. I also added walnuts to the topping. Thanks for the recipe. (And I can't believe people thought that there was coffee in coffee cake. Whaaaat?)

May I use Self Rising Flour

Made this last night. Way to sweet . Top should be cut in half. It's like bitting into sugar. Sorry I wasted all those ingredients

Contrary to Catherine...this was divine! Everyone loved this. I tweeked it a bit and added half the oil and the rest was bourbon! So yummy! Thanks! PS works well with pears too!

I love this idea!

Can I make this a13x9 pan? Will the cake be too thin?

I think it might be a little too thin. You can try doubling the recipe!

Can I make this and cook it and then freeze it?

Could less sugar be used in cake and streusel??

i cut down the sugar portion in half in the cake and streusel, and did not use any sugar in the cream, it was delicious and actually sweet enough

i doubled the apple portion and cut down the sugar portion in half, also added walnuts to the apple layer. it was the best recipe i ever used. everyone loved it and i made it 3 times in just one week.

thank you so much and please keep going <3

Okay .... THANK YOU

THE BEST CAKE EVER!!!!!

QUESTION: WHICH RECIPE DO YOU RECOMMEND ME AS GOOD AS THIS ONE !!!!

THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! EVERYBODY LOVE IT !!! I WILL DO IT 4EVER

Would this be ok if I made it the night before and refrigerated it? Also, I noticed some other commenters asking about using other fruits but I didn't see a reply. Would other fruits work our ok?

Other fruits should be fine, but I haven’t tried. It would probably be a good idea to refrigerate! :)

Just found this recipe. Will be making this as soon as new autumn apple crop comes in, as we are in Hot August weather now. It sounds scrumptious! Thank-you so much for sharing this yummy recipe!

Does anyone know if I could freeze this for a month

Please tell me how many grams in one Cup?

Ladies it is a whole new generation out there. A coffee cake was always a nice cake to eat while enjoying a cup of coffee. I never drank coffee, so I often referred to it as a \"breakfast\" cake since I always preferred to make them with fruit in them or a cinnamon cake, etc. it honestly never occurred to me to actually put coffee in it. I guess we all have different tastes.

So enough of the \"coffee in the coffee cake\" can I make and freeze these?

Haha, yeah, should work!

Yum! Clearly would be perfect as a dessert, snack, side, ...breakfast? :)

I am going to make this this weekend. What apples do you suggest that I use?

Any firm Apple should be fine. Granny Smith, jonagold, Fuji, or honeycrisp to name a few.

Can I make this in a bread pan? Looks yummy!

Sure!

Is there a way you can post this so that the recipe can be

printed? Am I missing that? It looks absolutely delicious

and I can write it off and will but it would be so nice

just to print it.

Thank you

There's a grey print button at the top of the post under the title.

Thank you!! Color me embarrassed!!!

I looked and looked and totally missed

seeing the printer!!! Thanks again.

Hope your baby comes on time!!

Jean, Hold the left click button down and highlight the recipe. (just the actual printed recipe part) (It will turn blue or whatever color your highlighting is). Then click the right click button on your mouse and select Print and then you can print just the recipe part, not the whole entire posting.Hope this helps. Mine came out as 2 pages.

have this in the oven right now. Canntot wait to taste it

I give up - have tried twice now to cut and paste this recipe!

Coffee cake doesn't have coffee, it's a cake to eat when you drink your coffee! Duh

Just made this and it's cooling. Is it meant to be eaten warm or cold? Or both??

Both! (but I like it cool)

Congrats on the baby! And, that he's such a good sleeper! Quick question for you (sorry if it's silly) - when you say vanilla do you mean scraped out of the pod vanilla or something like vanilla extract? This cake is a must try, along with 342 of your other recipes. This week it'll be the sweet potato apple beer soup. I'm so excited.

Thanks! And I used vanilla extract, but beans would be awesome I'm sure. I hope you like the soup too! :)

Went apple picking last weekend and was looking for yummy desserts to make with all the apples we picked. It was definitely a win! The different layers make it that much better, you get the softness of the cake with the creaminess of the cream cheese and the crunch of the streusel ... I will definitely be making this again!

Any idea on how it will taste without the cream cheese layer

I bet it would still be good!

Do I store this on the counter or fridge?

Yammie, this coffee cake was incredible. I only made a couple of minor changes: 1. i cooked the apples in a bit of butter and added some brown sugar before adding to the cake. 2. i made this in a bundt pan and baked for the same amount of time (45 min).

My family said that it was one of the best cakes they have ever had. The three layers paired so well together and the cake itself had such a moist and tender crumb. I loved it warm, the fam liked it cold. I have already been asked to make this again and it has only been 2 days :)

your blog is one of my favourites - your sense of humour really shines through and your recipes are always WINNERS!!! yay.

Congratulations on your bundle of joy!

Xena

Thanks! I’m glad you liked the cake. :D

I was very wary when titling this post. Last time I posted a coffee cake, I got multiple commenters and emailers saying, \"Excuse me, but where is the coffee in this coffee cake recipe? I have read it through multiple times and I just cannot find the coffee. Please help!\"

No, you are reading that correctly, folks. This coffee cake, like pretty much all coffee cakes I've ever had, has absolutely no coffee in the recipe! Shocking, I know. But I do hope you will drink a cup or several of coffee while you are devouring it.

Really though, I shouldn't make fun of you wonderful commenters.

But while I'm already on a roll, can we just talk about the people who ask if \"this chocolate chip cookie recipe will still turn out the same if we leave out the chocolate chips\" (to whom I must answer, \"What do you live for?\"). Or how about the people who ask in earnest if cupcakes are meant to be served as a side dish or dessert?

I'm not even joking when I say, these kind of comments are what make blogging worth it.

Enjoy your coffee cake. Good day.
