Flaky Butter Pie Crust

Flaky Butter Pie Crust

Flaky Butter Pie Crust

I’m anxious to try this. Maybe we can have it for Christmas.

Janelle, I just wanted to let you know;

I couldn’t wait to make this, it sounded so delicious. When I got home from the store with what I thought was all of the ingredients, I was deviding up the 1 pint of heavy cream when I realized the recipe called for 3 cups but the pint I bought was only 2 cups. I needed to go back to the store to buy more cream. Just wanted to give a heads up to prevent other people to do the same. I’ll be making it tonight. Thanks for the recipe!

Janet EXCELLENT point. I’ll make a note above to buy the LARGE Heavy cream. Come back and tell me what you think!! I can’t wait to hear your review!! Oh…and can I come over and have a slice too?!

I tried this recipe using heavy whipping cream since that’s all they had at the store. My second and third layer never got thick. I had to keep it in the freezer for hours before putting top layer on. Any suggestions?!

Hi Janelle! Love your name and that it’s spelled correctly! I’m so sorry to hear that it never set up! I’ve only had that happen to me once out of the countless times I’ve made this pie. For me it was the heavy cream. You were correct to purchase heavy whipping cream – I’ll update the recipe to show that as I call it heavy cream but many do call it heavy whipping cream so I’ll clarify for others! The one time I used a unique heavy cream I purchased from a local cheese factory and it took HOURS to freeze. So it could be your heavy whipping cream. However I’ve tried walmart brand, target brand (my favorite) and name brands and have had success with them all.

Does this pie travel well, like to take to a party?

Yes it does! If you are traveling with it, I would put the whipped cream topping on it and then freeze it that way it’s a frozen pie when you travel. Depending on how far you are traveling, it should do fine. If it’s several hours, you’ll need to pop it in the freezer again before serving to firm it up. If it’s close by then it should travel just fine! Enjoy!

I couldn’t wait to make this pie. When I beat the second layer it was like it curdled or something. It kind of reminded me of making home made butter where the liquid separated from butter. It tastes good though. I also used heavy whipping cream.

Hi Kathy! I’m so sorry that you didn’t have success with your second layer! If it curdled then your chocolate sauce was too hot. Next time let it come to room temperature or chilled before you mix it in with your heavy cream. I’m glad it tasted good though! I’ve made this dozens of times and never had that issue when the chocolate is at room temperature or colder. Hope this helps!

I made this to bring for a Mother’s Day BBQ today and it was SO good. I made an Oreo crust for it which just added to it. Thank so much…it was a hit!

LOVE the idea of an Oreo crust Kristyn! I’m glad everyone loved it! I hope you’ll try a few of our other recipes too!

I would love to make your easy chocolate pie, it looks delicious. My question is can I store it in the refrigerator instead of freezer?it s only the two of us so will last longer than one day holiday.

Hi Sherry! Of course you can! The pie will be softer, but absolutely amazing. And really how soft the pie is will 100% depend on the temperature of your fridge! I’ve done it both the fridge and freezer and it’s delicious either way!

Is this an 8 or 9 in. Pie?

9 inch pie. If you do an 8 inch pie you’ll have extra filling…which you’ll be forced to eat. It’s a rough life really.

When I was a child, we used to do Thanksgiving with my Mom’s brothers each year. Overall, Thanksgiving was by far my least favorite holiday.

I was an extremely picky eater and in general didn’t like anything on the Thanksgiving table.

I did however love pie.

One year, my Aunt Kathy brought a chocolate pie. It was coveted by all the kids and we each declared we must have a slice.

It was the first time I had ever heard of chocolate pie. I was amazed at such a novel idea and have thought about that chocolate pie every Thanksgiving since.

I suspect, though memory is quite fuzzy, that her chocolate pie was nothing more than chocolate jello pudding in a pie shell. No matter what it was, it was delicious.

Remembering that chocolate pie, I had to make this one as soon as I saw it. This is a Dean Brother’s pie. It’s literally 5 ingredients (of which you probably already have on hand) and quite possibly impossible to mess up.

This chocolate pie does not include the words jello anywhere and is by far the best chocolate pie I’ve ever eaten. It has also quickly become a favorite pie among EVERYONE who has ever tried it.

If you love pie, and are in need of an easy and decadent dessert for your dinner, then give this one a try! Perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas or even family dinner.
