Embroidery Hoop - Handmade Christmas Ornaments

Hi Cristina. What a GREAT idea! I used to use those hoops for cross stitch ornaments years ago but they took forever to do! I still have some that I made back in the 80s. Yours are much more \"with it\" though. Love the idea(s). xo Diana

This is such a fun idea for ornaments! I wonder if you could even get just a plain white or cream fabric and have the kiddos use fabric paint to make their own-like you said, the possibilities are endless!

Thanks Brenda! These are 3\" embroidery hoops. I bought them at Michaels, but you can also find them at fabric stores.

Embroidery Hoop - Handmade Christmas Ornaments

I'm planning on having a more natural holiday decor this year. Unlike last Christmas when I used lots of red, this time I want a more subtle palette, lots of wood tone decorations, burlap, fresh greenery and a little bit of sparkle.

I think my project today will fit perfectly within the theme. These embroidery hoop ornaments are so charming and the best part:

They're so EASY to make!

As I mentioned before, I'm so glad to be part of this group of bloggers brought together by Diane at An Extraordinary Day, Mary Beth at Cupcakes and Crinoline, Malia at Yesterday on Tuesday and Stephanie at The Silly Pearl. I just have to say, thanks so much ladies for all the hard work you have put onto this wonderful Christmas Ornament blog hop.

You might think you'll need embroidery needle, floss, yarn, and lots of time to stitch, stitch, stitch, but nope! I told you this is EASY.

You'll only need the embroidery hoop and a fabric that has some designs on it that looks like it's already embroidered.

I used this burlap/lace fabric I bought at Walmart, 1/8 of a yard for only $1.50 and I'll probably have enough material for 16 ornaments. The burlap makes it sturdy enough and the lace on top creates the embroidery illusion.

The materials you'll need for one:

3\" Embroidery hoop

Fabric of your choice - 5\" square

2 Pieces of Ribbon - one piece 10½\" long and the other 16\" long.

Scissors

Elmer's glue - optional

Embellishments - optional.

The instructions are basic. Stretch the fabric taut using the embroidery hoop.

Once the fabric is well secured, trim it using the scissors.

Some people use glue to keep the fabric from unraveling, though I don't think much unraveling happens once the fabric is pressed in between both circles. I would use the glue to permanently secure the fabric onto the hoop.

But, I have to tell you, I only used glue on one of the hoops. I know I'll be using a different fabric next year and I don't want to have a fight trying to separate the fabric from the hoops. ;)

For the bow and holder I used two pieces of ribbon. The shorter piece of ribbon is passed thru the screw, tying both ends in a knot. The other piece of ribbon is used to make a bow right above the screw securing it to the ribbon loop.

And that's it. Easy right?

Just for fun I tried this red and white variation. I also bought the fabric at Walmart -last year when I used it on my kitchen window right HERE.

A simple rhinestone was added to the center of each hoop.
